Why AI visibility is its own problem

Google ranks pages. AI engines quote passages. A page can rank on the first result page and still never be cited, because the engine could not crawl it, could not parse it, or could not find a self-contained passage that answered the question.

The most common cause is the least interesting one: a robots.txt written years ago to keep scrapers out now blocks the crawlers that feed ChatGPT search. It takes one line to fix and nothing tells you it is happening.

Frequently asked questions

Why would AI search engines not see my site?

Three usual causes: robots.txt blocks the AI crawlers, your content renders client-side so crawlers see an empty page, or there is no structured data telling engines what the page is about. All three are checkable in under a minute.

Are these tools really free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. Each tool fetches the public HTML of the URL you enter and analyses it in the response. Nothing is stored.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything runs against the public version of your page — the same thing a crawler would fetch.

Is AI visibility different from SEO?

It overlaps but is not the same. Google ranks pages; AI engines quote passages. That makes machine-readable structure matter more than it does for classic rankings.
